Surfaces of previously enameled electric lighting fixtures, and
corrosion resisting steel shall not be primed or enameled.

Surfaces adversely affected by paint films shall not be primed or
enameled.
d.
Exterior surfaces of electrical circuit components shall be enameled
to match the interior green enamel.
The fire extinguisher and first aid kit shall not be further primed or

enameled to obscure the characteristic color associated with the
items.
3,5.1.1.1 Surface preparation. All metal surfaces requiring paint shall be
cleaned using compound, MIL-C-10578 (type i or II) or MIL-C-5541, class la for
aluminum and TT-A-490, Method III for steel.
3.5. 1.1.2 Priming. After surface preparation (see 3.5.1.1,1), a primer
designed for metal surfaces shall be applied to all metal surfaces prior to
enameling.
3.5.1.1.3 Enameling, All metal and wood surfaces shall be given two coats of
enamel in accordance with TT-E-519. The color shall match the-interior color of
the Government furnished shelter except as noted on drawings. The first coat of
enamel shall be thoroughly dry prior to application of the second coat. The
finished enameled surfaces shall be uniformly coated, smooth, free from sags,
excess buildup, orange peel, runs, and teardrops.
3.5.2 Shelters, exterior. Parts and equipment attached to exterior surfaces

shall be cleaned, primed, and enameled in accordance with the manufacturer
regular commercial practice. The final applied finish shall match the color and
gloss of the original finish of the Government furnished shelter. Exterior
shelter surfaces shall be rehabilitated, when necessary, to restore the original
color and finish to exterior surfaces which become scratched or abraded during
progress of the work required by this document.
3,6 Marking. In addition to existing markings, each completed shelter shall
be marked for identification in accordance with requirements herein specified,
and as shown on applicable drawings.
3,6.1 Shelter, exterior.
3.6.1.1 End item identification plates. Identification plates, conforming to
type I, style 3 of MIL-P-514, shall be attached to the upper left hand corner of
the exterior door wall of each printing plant shelter. The required information
shall be added in the spaces provided. Included as information, shall be the
National Stock Number (NSN) and nomenclature of the 2-shelter printing plant,
and the NSN and nomenclature of the shelters to which the plates are attached.
Plate size may be expanded, if necessary, to receive the required information.
