Performance requirements. The machine shall provide copies which have the following minimum qualities when tested as specified in Test Procedure 1. Paper used in testing shall conform to the requirements of Commercial Item Description A-A-1912, issue on effect on the date of the Request for Proposal (RFP). Copies of the test targets presented as Figures I and II are for illustrative purposes only. Actual targets should be obtained from the sources referenced.
Resolution. The resolution shall equal or exceed 4.0 line pairs per millimeter.
Halt-tones. The finished copy shall show at least three (3) distinct gray shades (excluding back ground).
Blackness, density. The solid darkest area on the finished copy shall show a reflectance of 10 percent or less. Adjacent background areas shall show a reflectance of 80 percent or greater.
Carbonless blue. The average reflectance shall be 50.0 percent or less.
Test procedure 1. The copiers shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s normal commercial practice. Copies shall be made in accordance with the following procedure:
Turn on and warm up machine.
Place the resolution test target (Figure 1) in position in reproduction.
Set the darkness/lightness control per manufacturer’s operating instructions. If no instructions are provided, the control shall be set at the middle of its range.
Make twelve (12) runs of 10 copies each. Runs shall be made at ten minute intervals so that the total copies are produce within a 2 1/2 hour period.
Remove the 11th, 55th, 120th copies for evaluation.
Repeat steps 2 through 5 using the IEEE test target (Figure II).
Evaluation: Evaluation of resolution shall be
performed on copies produced from Figure I test target. Evaluation of
half-tones and blackness shall be performed on copies produced from Figure II
test target.
Resolution: Using a magnifier between 5X and 10X, determine the smallest
line pair target in each target set which can be resolved. The line pair target
is considered resolved when the lines (and spaces) are visibly separate. The
resolution of the copiers shall be the lowest resolution value obtained from
the 15 target sets on the three copies removed for evaluation.
Half-tones. Each of the three copies removed for evaluation shall be
visually examined to determine that at least three distinct shades of gray are
visible in both patterns 7 and 8 of the Test Chart. The white background shall
not be considered a shade; the darkest step shall be considered a shade.
